Allen Wrench Strain: Strong, Cerebral Strain
The Allen Wrench strain is a Sativa-dominant hybrid that stems from popular genetics. Despite this, Allen Wrench has not quite gained the same traction as a “patient favorite.” Of course, that is not to say that it’s not up to par overall.
Allen Wrench Strain: NYC Diesel X Trainwreck
I picked up this batch of the Allen Wrench strain on my recent trip to Apothecary Collective in Van Nuys, CA. I wasn’t sure what to expect upon hearing its name, but I soon learned that the genetic lineage stems from the NYC Diesel and Trainwreck strains.
“The genetic lineage stems from the NYC Diesel and Trainwreck strains.”
Knowing this, I expected the Allen Wrench strain to be quite the experience.
The Trainwreck strain has always had a special place in my heart, and the addition of NYC Diesel was sure to bring some flare of its own.
I’ve had the opportunity to review each of these strains separately over the years, and I’ve come to expect an uplifting Sativa experience with each one. So, I was excited to see how these two classics would mesh together in one package.
How Might The Allen Wrench Strain Affect Me?
This batch of the Allen Wrench strain had a incredibly similar bud structure to that of the Trainwreck stain. However, the color of the buds themselves seemed to be a shade or two darker than what I’ve come to expect.
“After just a few minutes of medicating with [Allen Wrench], I began to sense a relaxing buzzing sensation in my mind.”
As far as its aroma/taste is concerned, this batch of the Allen Wrench strain was more reminiscent of the NYC Diesel strain. Its terpene profile had a distinct gassy characteristic, although the lemony citrus flavor didn’t make itself known.
After just a few minutes of medicating with this strain, I began to sense a relaxing buzzing sensation in my mind – I found this quite useful in treating a migraine. My energy level began to climb very quickly also.
Overall, I would say that the Allen Wrench strain is a great option for stress and anxiety relief later in the day. It may also be beneficial for patients who suffer from PTSD, OCD, lupus-related pain, depression, and more.
About Allen Wrench strain
For many, the words £allen wrench conjure up those pesky, easy-to-lose tools that come packaged with unassembled modular furniture. For some cannabis lovers, though, Allen Wrench sparks thoughts of productivity and motivation.
The Allen Wrench strain is a mostly sativa cross between potent sativa Trainwreck and landrace-derived hybrid NYC Diesel. With a simultaneously fruity and sour bouquet, this strain is sure to leave an impression on the palate — but it’s primarily known for its ability to ratchet up users’ higher-order thinking and to inspire creativity. Cannabis testing lab Analytical 360 has found flowers of Allen Wrench to have between 16% and a staggering 28% THC content.
Allen Wrench’s bag appeal is established by some very visually impressive flowers. The nugget-like blossoms are medium to large and have the long, tapered appearance typical of other sativa varieties; depending on the individual plant phenotype, flowers may range in shape from spade-like to almost cylindrical. The leaves are tightly packed together in a dense bud structure and are a mossy green, threaded through with vibrant orange pistils. An abundance of glassy white trichomes give the flowers a sheen and a resinous texture. This is an especially hard strain to break apart without the use of a grinder.
When Allen Wrench is properly cured, it gives off the stench of gasoline, an odor inherited from its NYC Diesel parent strain. A skunky tang can also be detected while grinding up or breaking open the buds yields a faint citrus smell. Allen Wrench burns with a very smooth smoke that tastes earthy and distinctly lemony on the exhale. Smokers should note that this is a particularly pungent smoke – those looking to keep their consumption discreet should take the necessary precautions.
The high from Allen Wrench comes on quickly as a headrush, accompanied by a mounting pressure behind the eyes and temples. Users may also notice some increased salivation at first. Almost immediately, smokers will detect a change in perception: otherwise mundane objects or experiences can take on new significance, worthy of deep analysis.
This kind of free-associative thinking may stoke creative, artistic work; it can also allow for cerebral problem-solving, helping users to see an entrenched challenge from a new angle. As the high wears on and users become accustomed to this altered state, Allen Wrench’s cerebral nature can become more comfortable. In social settings, this may lend itself to stimulating conversation — or even just a few shared giggles. Because it keeps smokers alert at best and jittery at worst, Allen Wrench is an excellent choice for daytime productivity but is not always the best option for nighttime use.
Because of its predominantly sativa vibes, Allen Wrench’s medical applications are more psychological than physiological. It can help patients with attention deficit disorders to sustain focus on single tasks. It can also clear a cluttered mind that may be distracted by stress or a busy schedule. Because of its tendency towards intense recursive thinking, though, Allen Wrench is not recommended for those who tend towards anxiety or paranoia.
Allen Wrench’s original breeders are as yet unknown, and its original seed stock has not been released for commercial sale. Instead, prospective growers need to obtain clippings from mature plants of the strain in order to grow genetically identical clones. This finicky variety may not be the best choice for newcomers to cultivation. It can be grown indoors or out, although outdoor growing requires semi-humid, Mediterranean-like climates.
Indoors, Allen Wrench can stretch to impressive heights, especially during the flowering period. As such, growers are encouraged to train and stunt its vertical growth by trimming and pruning plants early in the vegetative stage.
As is typical of purer sativas, this strain has a very long flowering time of about 10 to 11 weeks when grown indoors. It can also be a very smelly crop, and those trying to keep a low profile should invest in odor-control measures like carbon air filters or exhaust fans.
Allen Wrench’s potent psychoactivity is an asset to cannabis veterans who can wrangle its persistent mind race to produce creative and thoughtful output. Well suited to daytime — and particularly morning — use, its long-lasting sativa buzz is just the thing for thinking outside the box, or for simply appreciating the thousands of new experiences that every day has to offer.
ALLEN WRENCH STRAIN OVERVIEW
In the hardware world, an Allen wrench is also known as a hex key. It is a basic yet invaluable tool used in conjunction with screws and bolts with hexagonal heads.
Breeders often name their weed after people or items. Much like the tool, Allen Wrench marijuana has a variety of uses. Yes, you can use it recreationally, but the medical cannabis community has also embraced this potent strain.
What Is the Allen Wrench Strain?
Allen Wrench weed is a strongly sativa-dominant hybrid and is a cross of NYC Diesel and Trainwreck. Although it was almost certainly created in the United States, the breeder’s identity remains open to dispute.
Given the popularity of the strain, it is amazing that no one has come forward and taken credit for putting two powerhouse strains together and creating a masterpiece.
As Allen Wrench weed is a combination of two potent strains, it isn’t surprising that its THC percentage can reach the mid-20s. While the cerebral stimulation it provides is incredible, there is a danger that novices will be overwhelmed. However, seasoned cannabis users say that Allen Wrench’s high is one of the best psychoactive experiences you’re likely to have.
Almost immediately after consuming this strain, users report feeling a rapid and potent cerebral rush. Typically, this is accompanied by a noticeable pressure behind the temples and eyes. Experienced cannabis users with a decent tolerance describe the high as uplifting and happy.
It is also likely that you’ll experience a sudden surge of energy, which can help you speed through your daily tasks. Before long, a feeling of euphoria arrives, and you become chatty and sociable.
Allen Wrench has an alluring and enticing aroma that combines both fruity and floral notes. Some users describe Allen Wrench’s fragrance as similar to freshly dug earth coupled with zesty citrus scents. Breaking open the nugs reveals a slight smell of the cannabis terpene, myrcene.
The fruity and citrusy combination carries over into the flavor. As well as offering a smooth smoke, Allen Wrench provides a lemony and earthy taste on the exhale.
The leaves of this strain are dark green, and as harvest time approaches, wispy brown pistils become apparent. Overall, an Allen Wrench plant has a dense and sticky appearance with extremely plump buds.
Given its top-shelf genetics, it is unsurprising that Allen Wrench is coated with frosty trichomes come harvest-time.

If you decide to grow it outside, please note that this strain needs a Mediterranean climate to thrive. Your outdoor plants should be ready for harvest by the end of October and produce a bountiful yield of up to 24 ounces per plant.
When you grow Allen Wrench indoors, consider using the Screen of Green (SCROG) method to maximize yield. One thing to note is that Allen Wrench plants are susceptible to overfeeding. Therefore, it is a good idea to keep a detailed nutrient journal and feed cautiously. One of the significant challenges of growing this strain indoors is keeping its height under control.
It is not a good strain for novice growers because it is susceptible to bud rot and mold. With the Allen Wrench strain, you must keep the humidity level of your grow room under control. Possible Side Effects of Allen Wrench Weed
The most common side effects experienced by Allen Wrench consumers are dry mouth and dry eyes. Final Thoughts on Allen Wrench Cannabis
If you have tried NYC Diesel and Trainwreck and enjoyed the flavors, you won’t be disappointed by Allen Wrench. The crisp, fruity taste is a real treat, and the cerebral high is mind-blowing. However, novices should leave this strain to more experienced cannabis consumers due to its potent THC level and powerful psychoactive effects.
When growing Allen Wrench, it is best to focus on an indoor grow. Be patient because the flowering time is slightly longer than average. Also, make sure that your grow room’s humidity is always within the right range. Otherwise, you risk mold or fungi growth, which will harm your crop and could even ruin it.
